United says its effort to create a fully vaccinated workforce is close to becoming a reality. The airline is preparing to fire nearly 600 employees who have refused to be vaccinated. United set a deadline and in now acting on its threat.
This morning United announced 99% of its workforce complied with the vaccine mandate. But 593 workers did not. In a statement Scott Kirby, the CEO of United said, "we’ll unfortunately begin the process of separation from the airline per our policy. This was an incredibly difficult decision but keeping our team safe has always been our first priority."
Kirby was asked on CNBC what advice he would give other companies about vaccine mandates, he said, "Just do it... stick to it... everyone will get to 99%," vaccination rate.
The Biden administration has left it to companies, like United, to decide whether to mandate vaccines.
